Fishing Seasons By Species

We often get asked when is the best time of year to fish in Alaska. We operate our charter from the middle of  May through the middle of September and the fishing is good all summer depending on what your looking to catch!

Halibut Season

  • Halibut can be caught in the Cook Inlet all summer. Due to federal regulation charter boats are not allowed to target Halibut on all Wednesdays and Tuesdays 

Salmon Season

  • King (Chinook) Salmon can be caught year round in the Cook inlet, they are the largest of the salmon species. 

  • Silver (Coho) Salmon are the most aggressive salmon  and start to show up around the middle of July and can be caught through the beginning of  September.

  • Pinks (Humpy) Salmon  are the smallest but  most abundant salmon they can be caught from mid June through August.

  • Chum (Dog) Salmon is the second largest salmon and can be caught from middle of June through August.

  • Reds (Sockeye) are rarely caught in the ocean, but are targeted by sport fisherman in the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers.

Lingcod Season

  • Lingcod Season opens July 1st. If your looking to catch one of these mean looking fish book a multi species trip. Lingcod limit is 1 per day and they must be 35'' long

Rockfish Season

  • Rockfish season is open year round and is a great species to add to any charter.

Fishing Regulations 2025

  • Halibut -  2 Halibut per day one must be under 27'' long the other can be any size.

  • Salmon - The King Salmon bag limit reduced from 2 to 1 in the Lower Cook Inlet Salt Waters til July 31.  Other Salmon is 6 per day, only 3 of those  may be Silver (Coho)  Salmon.

  • Rockfish - 3 per day, only 1 per day, may be nonpelagic.

  • Lingcod -  1 per day, must be at least 35 inches long.
